Golden Retriever: two bonus types, two different counters
A number such as “3 remaining” is incomplete information in Golden Retriever. You first need the feature name. Free Spins and Hold & Spin have different continuation rules, so a counter from one cannot be interpreted using the other’s trigger.

Identify the feature before reading the number
The official Golden Retriever overview, checked on 8 October 2026, describes two bonus types. Free Spins uses a Wild-based retrigger: every fourth Wild adds ten spins. Hold & Spin begins with three respins and coin symbols reset its counter. A full coin grid also has its own continuation rule. Those are feature-specific descriptions, not interchangeable definitions of a generic “bonus spin.”
The first note on a screenshot should therefore be the feature label. A crop containing only a counter removes the context needed to decide whether its next change is an ordinary decrement, an addition, or a reset.
Use a different question for each counter
| What the record shows | Question to answer first | Rule to keep with it |
|---|---|---|
| Free Spins | How many awarded spins remain? | The feature’s qualifying retrigger condition |
| Hold & Spin | How many respins remain in this sequence? | The coin reset and grid-completion conditions |
| A cropped number without a feature label | Which feature produced this counter? | No conclusion until identity is established |

Two “3 remaining” notes are not the same record
Imagine two hypothetical notes from different screens. The first says “Free Spins: 3 remaining.” The second says “Hold & Spin: 3 remaining.” The numeral matches, but that does not make the next event equivalent.
For the first note, you would look for the Free Spins retrigger evidence. For the second, you would examine the reset or completion event in that feature. Counting coins in the first screen as though they automatically reset a respin counter imports the wrong rule. Counting Wild milestones in the second does the same in reverse.
This exercise is deliberately about record identity, not an invented sequence of paid results. Nothing in the two notes tells us the cash award, future symbol outcomes, or which feature a person will receive next.
Keep a four-field note
A practical record contains the exact game edition, feature name, counter label and observed event. For example: “Golden Retriever; Hold & Spin; remaining respins; a coin event is visible.” If the next counter value is not shown, leave it unrecorded rather than filling it in from a different feature’s rule.
The game library navigation guide helps locate the relevant category. Once the title is found, this additional feature-level check prevents a broad category label from doing more work than it can support.
